1After this, Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth.
2And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla—because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome—and he went to them.
3And because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.
4And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, persuading both Jews and Greeks.
5But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was engrossed in the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
6But when they opposed and blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”
7And he departed from there and went to the house of a certain man named Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
8Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with his whole household. And many of the Corinthians who heard were believing and being baptized.
9And the Lord said to Paul in the night through a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent,
10for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”
11So he stayed there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,
13saying, “This man is persuading people to worship God contrary to the law.”
14But as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of some injustice or a wicked crime, O Jews, I would have reason to put up with you.
15But if it is questions about a word and names and your own law, see to it yourselves. I do not wish to be a judge of these things.”
16And he drove them from the judgment seat.
17Then they all seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the judgment seat. But Gallio paid no attention to any of this.
18But Paul, after staying for many more days, said farewell to the brothers and sailed for Syria, and with him were Priscilla and Aquila. He had his head shaved in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.
19And they arrived at Ephesus, and he left them there. But he himself entered the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
20But when they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent,
21but said farewell and told them, “I will return to you again, God willing.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.
22And when he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church, and then went down to Antioch.
23After spending some time there, he departed, going through the region of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24Now a certain Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, an eloquent man, arrived in Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.
25This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.
26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained the way of God to him more accurately.
27And when he wanted to cross over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace,
28for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
