1 Peter 5

The AIT Bible

Shepherd the Flock of God

1Therefore I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that is about to be revealed:

2shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have it; not for shameful gain but eagerly;

3not lording it over those allotted to your charge, but becoming examples to the flock.

4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

Humility Under God's Hand

5Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elders; and all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time,

7casting all your anxiety on him, because he cares about you.

Resist the Roaring Lion

8Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour;

9resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kinds of sufferings are being accomplished in your brotherhood throughout the world.

10And the God of all grace, who called you into his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and ground you.

11To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Final Greetings

12Through Silvanus, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, greets you, and so does Mark my son.

14Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
