1Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
2Now I praise you because you remember me in all things and hold fast the traditions, just as I delivered them to you.
3But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of a woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.
4Every man praying or prophesying with something down over his head dishonors his head.
5But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is one and the same as her being shaved.
6For if a woman is not covered, let her also have her hair cut off; but if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, let her be covered.
7For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
8For man is not from woman, but woman from man;
9and indeed man was not created for the woman, but woman for the man.
10For this reason the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.
11Nevertheless, in the Lord neither is woman apart from man nor man apart from woman;
12for just as the woman is from the man, so also the man is through the woman; but all things are from God.
13Judge for yourselves: is it fitting for a woman to pray to God uncovered?
14Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him,
15but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her in place of a covering.
16But if anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.
17But in giving this instruction I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.
18For in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you, and in part I believe it.
19For there must even be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you.
20So then, when you come together in the same place, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper;
21for in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead, and one is hungry while another is drunk.
22For do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I do not praise you.
23For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night in which he was betrayed, took bread
24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
25In the same way he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
26For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
27So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
28But let a person examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup;
29for the one eating and drinking eats and drinks judgment on himself if he does not discern the body.
30For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.
31But if we were discerning ourselves, we would not be judged.
32But when we are judged, we are being disciplined by the Lord, so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
33So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
34If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you may not come together for judgment. The remaining matters I will set in order whenever I come.
