Song of Songs 2

A Lily Among Thorns

I am a crocus of Sharon, a lily of the valleys.

Like a lily among the thorns, so is my darling among the daughters.

Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. In his shade I delighted and sat down, and his fruit was sweet to my palate.

He brought me to the house of wine, and his banner over me was love.

Sustain me with raisin cakes, refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love.

His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me.

I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the does of the field: do not stir up or awaken love until it pleases.

The Voice of My Beloved

The voice of my beloved! Look, here he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.

My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look, here he stands behind our wall, gazing through the windows, peering through the lattice.

My beloved answered and said to me: Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come away.

For look, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone.

The blossoms have appeared in the land; the time of pruning has arrived, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.

The fig tree has ripened its early figs, and the vines in blossom give fragrance. Arise, come, my darling, my beautiful one, and come away.

My dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the hidden place of the cliff-side, let me see your form, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet and your form is lovely.

Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.

My beloved is mine and I am his — the one who grazes among the lilies.

Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, turn, my beloved; be like a gazelle or a young stag upon the cleft mountains.
