1The name of Josiah is like a compound of incense, the work of a perfumer’s art. In the mouth his memory is sweet as honey, like a song at a wine feast.
2He was grieved over our apostasy, and removed the abominations of vanity.
3He made his heart whole toward God, and in days of violence he established piety.
4Except for David, Hezekiah, and Josiah, they all acted corruptly. The kings of Judah forsook the Law of the Most High, until they came to their end.
5So he gave their horn to another, and their glory to a foolish, foreign nation.
6They set fire to the holy city and made its paths desolate. This was by the hand of Jeremiah, for they afflicted him, who was formed from the womb as a prophet.
7to uproot and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow; and also to build, to plant, and to establish.
8Ezekiel saw a vision and described the different forms of the chariot.
9He also made mention of Job, who maintained all the ways of righteousness.
10As for the twelve prophets, may their bones blossom from their resting place. They strengthened Jacob and delivered him by their faithful hope.
11How can we magnify Zerubbabel? He was like a signet ring on the right hand.
12So too Joshua son of Jozadak; in their days they built the house and raised up a holy people to the Lord, prepared for eternal glory.
13Great also is the memory of Nehemiah, who raised up our ruins, repaired our rubble, and set up doors and bars.
14Few have been created on earth like Enoch, for he too was taken from the earth.
15Was a man like Joseph ever born? Even his body was cared for.
16Shem, Seth, and Enosh were honored, but above every living creature in creation is the glory of Adam.
