1And after him, Nathan arose to stand before David.
2Like the fat separated from the holy offering, so was David from Israel.
3He played with young lions as with a kid, and with bears as with the rams of Bashan.
4In his youth he struck down a mighty man and removed an everlasting reproach; when he lifted his hand with a sling, he shattered the pride of Goliath.
5For he called to God Most High, who gave strength to his right hand to cast down a man skilled in warfare and to raise up the horn of Israel.
6Therefore the daughters acclaimed him, and honored him with ten thousand. When he wore the turban, he fought and subdued the foe on every side.
7He struck the cities of the Philistines, and to this day their horn is broken.
8In all his works he gave thanks to God Most High with words of glory. With all his heart he loved his Maker, and every day he praised him with songs.
9He established singers before the altar, and set in order the sound of psalms and lyres.
10He gave splendor, beauty, and glory to the feasts, year after year. When they praised his holy name, the sanctuary would resound before morning.
11Yahweh also put away his sin and exalted his horn forever. He gave him a statute of kingship and established his throne over Jerusalem.
12And for his sake, a discerning son arose after him, who dwelt in security.
13Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God gave him rest on every side,
14so that he prepared a house for his name and established a sanctuary forever.
15How wise you were in your youth! You overflowed with instruction like the Nile.
16You covered the earth with your wisdom and praised with lofty song.
17With song, proverb, riddle, and interpretation, you astounded the peoples.
18You were called by the glorious name that is invoked over Israel. You gathered gold like iron and amassed silver like lead.
19You gave your loins to women and let them have dominion over your body.
20You put a blemish on your glory and profaned your bed, bringing wrath upon your offspring and grief upon your couch.
21Resulting in the people being divided into two tribes, and from Ephraim, a tyrannical kingdom.
22But God will not abandon his mercy, nor let any of his words come to nothing. He will not cut off the offspring of his chosen one, nor destroy the seed of the one who loved him.
23He gave a remnant to Jacob, and a root from him to the house of David. Then Solomon rested, being old, and left after him a fool.
24Great in folly and lacking understanding, Rehoboam drove the people to rebel with his counsel. Then arose Jeroboam son of Nebat, who sinned and caused Israel to sin.
25He placed a stumbling block for Ephraim, to drive them from their land. Their sin grew very great, and they gave themselves over to all evil.
