1Beloved by God and men was Moses; may his memory be for a blessing.
2God honored him and made him mighty with terrors.
3By his words, he made signs hasten, and strengthened him before the king. He gave him commands for the people and showed him his glory.
4For his faithfulness and humility, he chose him from all flesh.
5He let him hear his voice and brought him into the thick darkness. He placed the commandments in his hand—a law of life and understanding—to teach his statutes to Jacob, and his testimonies and judgments to Israel.
6He raised up Aaron, a holy one from the tribe of Levi, and established him as an everlasting ordinance.
7He put majesty on him and attended him with his glory; he girded him with lofty strength and clothed him with bells.
8He clothed him with a perfect diadem and adorned him with glory and strength—breeches, a tunic, and a robe—and surrounded him with bells.
9And many pomegranates were all around, to make a pleasant sound at his every step.
10Holy garments of gold, blue, and purple, the work of a designer; a breastpiece of judgment, an ephod and a sash, and scarlet thread, the work of a weaver.
11Precious stones were on the breastpiece, engraved like a seal in their settings; each precious stone was a memorial, engraved with writing for the number of the sons of Israel.
12A crown of fine gold upon the turban, with a plate engraved like a seal: “Holy.” It was majesty and glory, a praise of strength, a delight to the eye and the perfection of beauty.
13Before him there was nothing like them, and no outsider will ever wear them. He entrusted them to him and to his sons, and to his descendants for all their generations.
14His offering was to be burned completely, every day, twice, continually.
15Moses filled his hand and anointed him with the holy oil. It became an everlasting covenant for him, and for his descendants, for as long as the heavens endure.
16to minister and serve as priest to him, and to bless his people in his name. He chose him from all the living to present burnt offerings and fat portions.
17to burn a pleasing aroma as a memorial portion and to make atonement for the sons of Israel. He gave him his commandments and authority over statutes and judgments,
18to teach his people statute, and the sons of Israel judgment. But outsiders grew hot against him and were jealous of him in the wilderness—
19the men of Dathan and Abiram, and the congregation of Korah, in their fierce anger. Yahweh saw it and was displeased, and in the heat of his wrath they were finished.
20He brought a sign against them and consumed them in a flash of his fire. Then he added to Aaron’s glory and gave him his inheritance.
21He gave him the first of the holy things for bread; they shall eat the fire-offerings of Yahweh. The bread of the Presence is his portion, a gift for him and his descendants.
22But he was to have no inheritance in their land, nor any portion among them. The fire-offerings of Yahweh are his portion and inheritance in the midst of the sons of Israel.
23And Phinehas son of Eleazar was third in valor; in his zeal for the God of all, he stood in the breach for his people.
24When his heart moved him, he made atonement for the sons of Israel. Therefore, He established a statute for him, an everlasting covenant to provide for the sanctuary,
25so that the high priesthood would belong to him and his descendants forever. His covenant was also with David, son of Jesse, of the tribe of Judah.
26The inheritance of one man is before his glory, but the inheritance of Aaron is for all his descendants. And now, bless Yahweh the Good,
27who crowns you with glory and gives you wisdom of heart, so that your goodness will not be forgotten, nor your valor, for all generations.
