1Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:
2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3I thank my God at every remembrance of you,
4always in every one of my prayers for you all, making my petition with joy,
5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
6being confident of this very thing: that the one who began a good work in you will bring it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
7just as it is right for me to think this concerning you all, because I hold you in my heart, since both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel you are all sharers with me in the grace.
8For God is my witness, how I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
10so that you may approve the things that matter, in order that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
11having been filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
12Now I want you to know, brothers, that the things concerning me have actually turned out for the advancement of the gospel,
13so that my chains have become known in Christ throughout the whole praetorium and to all the rest,
14and most of the brothers in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, dare all the more to speak the word of God fearlessly.
15Some indeed preach Christ even out of envy and strife, but others also out of goodwill.
16The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel,
17but the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, thinking to stir up affliction in my chains.
18What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice.
19For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20according to my eager expectation and hope that in nothing I will be put to shame, but with all boldness, as always so also now, Christ will be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death.
21For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this means fruitful labor for me; yet which I will choose I do not make known.
23I am hard pressed between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better;
24but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
25And being confident of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your advancement and joy in the faith,
26so that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my coming to you again.
27Only conduct yourselves worthily of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear about you, that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one soul contending together for the faith of the gospel,
28and not being frightened in anything by those who oppose you, which is to them a sign of destruction, but of your salvation, and this from God.
29For it has been granted to you, for the sake of Christ, not only to believe in him but also to suffer for his sake,
30having the same struggle that you saw in me and now hear to be in me.
