The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah, when he wrote these words on a scroll at Jeremiah’s dictation, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying:
Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, concerning you, Baruch:
You said, ‘Woe now to me, for Yahweh has added grief to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I have found no rest.’
Thus you shall say to him: Thus says Yahweh: Behold, what I have built I am tearing down, and what I have planted I am uprooting—and this applies to the whole land.
And you—do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For behold, I am bringing disaster on all flesh, declares Yahweh, but I will give you your life as spoil in all the places where you go.
