1So the king and Haman came to drink with Esther the queen.
2And the king said to Esther again on the second day, during the banquet of wine, “What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted to you. And what is your request? Up to half the kingdom, and it shall be done.”
3Then Queen Esther answered and said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be granted me at my petition, and my people at my request.
4For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to be annihilated. And if we had merely been sold as male slaves and female slaves, I would have kept silent, for the adversary is not worth the king’s injury.”
5Then King Ahasuerus said—he said to Queen Esther, “Who is he, and where is the one whose heart has filled him to do this?”
6And Esther said, “A man who is an adversary and an enemy—this evil Haman!” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
7And the king rose in his wrath from the banquet of wine into the garden of the palace, while Haman stood to plead for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that disaster against him was determined by the king.
8When the king returned from the garden of the palace to the house of the banquet of wine, Haman was falling on the couch on which Esther was. And the king said, “Will he even assault the queen with me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.
9Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs before the king, said, “Also, behold, the pole that Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good on behalf of the king, is standing at Haman’s house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said, “Hang him on it.”
10So they hanged Haman on the pole that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king’s wrath subsided.
