This short book presents two tales of the prophet Daniel's wisdom and faithfulness in the court of King Cyrus. In the first story, Daniel cleverly exposes the priests of the idol Bel, proving that their god is a lifeless fraud that cannot eat the offerings left for it. In the second, he confronts the worship of a great dragon, killing the creature to demonstrate that it is merely mortal, not divine. Thrown into a lions' den for his actions, Daniel is once again miraculously preserved and fed by an angel. Through these episodes, the narrative powerfully and satirically argues for the supremacy of the one true, living God over the empty deceptions of idolatry, encouraging steadfast faith among God's people.
