Chronicles 20

The Capture of Rabbah

And it happened at the turn of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led out the armed force and ravaged the land of the sons of Ammon; and he came and laid siege to Rabbah, while David remained in Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah and tore it down.

And David took the crown of their king from off his head and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and on it was a precious stone; and it was set on David’s head. And he brought out the plunder of the city in very great quantity.

And the people who were in it he brought out and set to work with saws and iron picks and axes. And thus David did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

Slaying the Philistine Giants

And it happened after this that war broke out at Gezer with the Philistines. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down Sippai, one of the descendants of the Rephaim, and they were subdued.

And there was war again with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair struck down Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

And there was war again, at Gath, where there was a man of great stature whose fingers and toes were six and six, twenty-four in all; and he too had been born to the Rapha.

And he taunted Israel, and Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him down.

These were born to the Rapha in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
