# Credits & Licensing

**The AIT translation itself — the English text, translator notes, crux registry, and the
pipeline code — is licensed [CC BY 4.0](./LICENSE).** You may copy, modify, print, sell, embed,
and redistribute it freely, for any purpose (commercial included) — the one requirement is
**attribution**: credit **"The AIT Bible (theaitbible.org), © Jeffrey P. Stoner,"** link the
license, and note any changes.

**The study-apparatus layers are the exception — they are NOT covered by CC BY.** The **book
introductions** (“About this book” pages), the **inline section (pericope) headings**, the
**Life Guide**, the **study guides**, the **chronological reading plan**, and the **devotional
material** are original editorial work, **© 2026 Jeffrey P. Stoner — all rights reserved.** They
are shown in the reader as a courtesy but are separately licensed: they may not be copied or
redistributed without permission. The translation, translator notes, crux registry, and pipeline
remain CC BY. (Combining a CC BY work with a more-restricted layer is fine so long as the boundary
is labeled, which is the purpose of this note.)

AIT is built on public-domain and openly-licensed source texts. The table below is precise so
that anyone redistributing AIT knows exactly what carries an obligation and what does not.

| Component | What it is | License | Obligation |
|---|---|---|---|
| **AIT English translation, notes, `cruxes.json`, `pipeline/` code** | Our own work | **CC BY 4.0** | **credit "The AIT Bible (theaitbible.org), © Jeffrey P. Stoner"** |
| **Book introductions, section headings, Life Guide, study guides, reading plan, devotionals** | Original study apparatus | **© 2026 Jeffrey P. Stoner — all rights reserved** | not CC BY; permission required |
| **Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC)** | Hebrew OT source text (via OpenScriptures / OSHB) | Public Domain | none |
| **OSHB morphology** | Hebrew word-level morphology tags | **CC BY 4.0** | **must credit [OpenScriptures Hebrew Bible](https://github.com/openscriptures/morphhb)** |
| **Nestle 1904 Greek NT** | Greek NT source text (earliest-witness critical text) | Public Domain | none |
| **Nestle 1904 morphology** | Greek word-level morphology (U. Sandborg-Petersen) | **CC0** | none |
| **Byzantine Majority Text (Robinson–Pierpont)** | Greek source used in the initial John edition | Public Domain | none |
| **Brenton Septuagint (1851)** | LXX witness for textual comparison | Public Domain | none |
| **Strong’s numbers / lexicon** | Public-domain Strong’s glosses | Public Domain | none |

## Attributions (for redistributors)
When you redistribute the **AIT translation**, include a credit such as:

> Scripture text from **The AIT Bible** (https://theaitbible.org), © Jeffrey P. Stoner,
> licensed **CC BY 4.0** (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).

If you redistribute the **Hebrew morphology** data or displays derived from it, also include:

> Hebrew morphology from the **OpenScriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB)**, © OpenScriptures,
> licensed **CC BY 4.0** (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).

The underlying source texts (WLC, Nestle 1904, Brenton, Strong’s) are public domain and require
no attribution of their own.

## Gratitude
This edition would not exist without the scholars and volunteers behind the WLC, the
OpenScriptures Hebrew Bible, the Nestle 1904 digital edition (transcription by Diego Renato
dos Santos; morphology by Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen, building on Maurice A. Robinson’s work),
the Robinson–Pierpont Byzantine text, and Brenton’s Septuagint. We stand on their labor and
pass it forward, freely.
